#DIY: Garlic Shampoo to Treat Hair Loss!

I’m obsessed about my hair, but lately I’ve been losing a lot of hair! I take respite in knowing that I’m not alone because everyone I know is also facing similar issues. Of course, I’ve been trying many products ranging from anti-hair fall shampoo, anti-hair fall hair oil, conditioner and anti-hair fall hair masks and what not! And when it comes to taking care of my hair, I swear by herbal products.

Recently, I came across an article for hair loss stating that garlic could be used as a cure for thinning and falling hair! Yes, that one magic ingredient that has been lying on my kitchen counter all this while!

We have known garlic to have anti-bacterial and medicinal properties but I was quite surprised to know that it can be used as a shampoo. Not only hair fall, garlic shampoo looks after your scalp health, treats thinning hair and soothes damaged hair.

After a bout of serious hair fall, I decided to give it a try. Since I totally suck at DIY, I bought it off online. The garlic shampoo from Nutrine, which you can get here and here, comes in scented and unscented variants. I tried the scented one. Yes, it is scented – and it is the scent of, obviously, garlic! But if you think that you’re going to smell like garlic all day, then fret not, the smell washes off as you rinse.

Since I have greasy scalp, my hair tends to get oily in just two days, so I wash it on alternate days. After using this shampoo for about a month, my hair started to look and feel better. It has definitely controlled hair fall and my hair is shinier and bouncier than before! And no, I don’t smell garlicky, unless someone decides to put his nose on my scalp!!

The shampoo which I use is a bit on the pricier side but I’m willing to pay a bit more for the sake of my hair. But my talented friend, who’s a great DIYer, was kind enough to make an easy garlic shampoo for me and share the method. It’s really easy and you can make it in a few minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 20 fresh and big garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
  • Mild herbal shampoo
  • Tea tree oil or any essential oil

Method:

  • Peel and wash garlic cloves
  • Put them in a grinder and make a fine paste
  • Add aloe vera gel to the paste for a good consistency
  • Put this paste to the bottle of shampoo and add a few drops of tea tree oil or any other essential oil to get rid of any pungent smell

So there you have it – an easy DIY garlic shampoo! Do remember that this DIY batch can only be used for two weeks, so make sure the shampoo bottle is not new.

Have you tried garlic shampoo yet? If yes, how was your experience? Do share it with us in the comments section below.
